Goodreads asked Tracy Stopler:

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Tracy Stopler "Where Do I Begin..."
My favorite fictional couple is from Erich Segal's best-selling novel, Love Story. In he 1970 movie version the scene opens with Ryan O'Neils character, Harvard Law School student, Oliver Barrett IV, sitting by the Charles River talking about how he lost the love of his life, twenty-five-year-old school teacher, Jenny Cavilleri, played by Ali MacGraw.

They fall deep in love despite their vast differences. He is a jock from a wealthy family attending Harvard University and she is from a working-class family studying classical music at Radcliff College.

Neither of their fathers bless their union. They listen only to their own inner voices, marry anyway, and immediately make great sacrifices. Oliver is cut off as an heir to the Barrett fortune and Jenny postpones her music career to teach in order to support her new husband through law school.

Barrett and Jenny's soulful relationship proves to be their once-in-a lifetime-love that rises way above all physical forces that tend to tear relationships apart.
