I'm so glad you've enjoyed the mysteries. I loved writing them. Right now I don't have any plans to continue with them, but that doesn't mean I won't one of these days. Poor David and Hulan have been through so much. I like to think that they're on vacation somewhere, sitting by the ocean, under a palm tree, sipping drinks with those little umbrellas in them. Those two deserve a break! But one day they'll be called back to work.

Months ago I asked about historic novels about Finland and you said you didn't know any, but asked for recommendations. I have now read three: The Burnt Out Town of Miracles (Jacobson,) New Finnish Grammar (Marani,) and The Unknown Soldier (Linna.) Only the last was written by a Finn and is presumably realistic. But the other two, however unlikely, did have a good sense of time and place. Have you found any?

One of the many elements I enjoyed in China Dolls, an element that made this novel stand out from your previous works, was the great emotional depth of your male characters (particularly Eddie.) Why do you think this story lent to a deeper exploration of your heroines' male counterparts? Thanks for being a magnificent woman!
