I wanted to write a contemporary romance that also had a strong external plotline in addition to the love story. Because I love survival stories, I thought it would be a lot of fun to write one. Then I decided I would put two people in peril - two people who would probably not fall in love otherwise - and see what happened. I really wanted readers to fall in love with the characters, and then root for them to fall in love with each other.

Writing On the Island was an extremely joyful process. The characters felt very real to me and I miss them a lot!
