I love the contrast and the friendship between those three characters. You have to read the books to understand, don´t want to spoil a great plot.
If I can add other couple, say I love the interaction between Elijah Baley and Gladia Solaria in the Robots Saga from Isaac Asimov. And don´t forget R.Daneel and R.Giskard, a kind of friendship or brotherwood I´ll always admire.
