Goodreads asked Sherwood Smith:

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Sherwood Smith Since the question doesn't define couple, I'm going to say Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin of Patrick O'Brian's magnificent roman fleuve beginning with Master and Commander. Their coupleship is a fascinating, harrowing, exasperating, and highly entertaining blend of friendship, brotherhood, and loyalty. And their deeply beloved wives understand that.

If I had to pick married people it would be more difficult, as so much literature leads up to the church door on wedding day (and in modern times to the bedroom) and then seldom gives us a glimpse of married lives. But the first pair to mind would be Dorothy Sayers' Harriet Vane and Lord Peter Wimsey.
