I have a list of issue books that I really like. They aren't all exactly like this, where the kid is abused, but all of them have one thing in common: characters that you fall in love with, who are struggling with very real trauma (like abuse or eating disorders or whatever.)
I'll list them here, but I also keep a shelf of these tyes of books that I think are amazing, so I'll link that shelf at the end too.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
When Jeff Comes Home by Catherine Atkins
What I Lost by Alexandra Ballard
Some Boys by Patty Blount
Faking Normal by Courtney C Stevens
All the Rage by Courtney Summers
Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Hate List by Jennifer Brown
Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Reason to Breathe (and the 2nd and 3rd book in the series) by Rebecca Donovan
Girls in Pieces by Katherine Glasgow
Shatter Me (NOT a YA book) by Alex Grayson
Paperweight by Meg Haston
More than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer
Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer
Heroine by Mindy McGinnis
The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Normal by Danielle Pearl
The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

I really liked this book and I think Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow is my favorite book at the moment. You may enjoy that.
Nikki Flynn
I would reccomend The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L Armentrout! Both deal with with very heavy topics and a rather introverted protagonist. Also both characters meet someone's from this childhood later on in life. (That's not a spoiler.)
