The setting …moreHigh fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy and refers to a world which is completely made up by the author and contains fantastical elements. The setting is mostly medieval and the characters usually have to fulfill a certain quest (kill the evil king, find a magical object, etc.). The most famous examples for that are The Lord Of The Rings by J R R Tolkien and recently Game Of Thrones by George R R Martin.
Other fantasy books might deal with only a little magic in a modern setting or even in our world (urban fantasy or low fantasy). (less)
