The print in the trilogy is pretty tiny, so that would be my guess.

Each book is likely abridged or edited. Look at the length of each original book and books in this version. The Sword of Shannara's is now only slightly longer than The Elfstones of Shannara, which itself is now only slightly longer than The Wishsong of Shannara.
