Why didn't the parents sell the fallow land? It seemed surprising when they announced that Ida B. could have saplings planted on it. It would have made more sense to sell that instead of land with apple trees that could earn more money for the medical treatments. Why is a child as precocious as Ida B. so unable to understand her parents' reasons for sending her back to school?

I could be wrong but I thought they sold land that was at the edge of their property. Not sure where the fallow land was. Can't say that aspect of the story bothered me any. I guess I gave the parents the benefit of the doubt.
