Can this be read as a standalone? I noticed it was #13 in the series and I've never read any of them yet and was wondering if I would be lost if I gave this one a go?

It has been many years now since I read #1, but when I finish #15 I am going to go back and reread #1 with a great appreciation.

I had no idea when I read #1 that there would be 14 more books and this last year I've been on a tear reading through the series.(less)
