Davethorson As I mentioned in my review, I believe the ending to simply mean that the youth remains vulnerable, remains at risk, and needs to be watched carefully, loved and guided through his coming years. I believe JCO intends to be ambiguous as far as the stranger's intention, as a way to emphasize that children are always at risk to danger and need to be loved and guided, just as the youth in the story is.
