Miriam Robarts It can be hard to keep straight the meanings of fiction and non-fiction. Something that helps me is the phrase, "Truth is stranger than fiction." So you've got truth & fiction. If fiction isn't true, then non-fiction is a true story.

Although this story has elements of truth, because it describes realistic aspects of real places and a specific time period, this is a novel that is only based on reality. It's not actually a true story. This type of book is called historical fiction, because it takes some things from history, and adds things that are made up. The author took inspiration from people that he knew in real life, but all the characters and events of this story were made up, and fictional.

This book would be good for 8th graders, and for adults as well. I see that this question was asked a couple years ago, but I thought you and others might find an answer useful anyway. I hope you did well on that assignment, as well as your current ones. If you didn't get a chance to read this book back then, you should give it a try now. I enjoyed it.
