Hello! I really enjoyed your book Gone, and I plan on reading the rest of the series as soon as possible. I was wondering, which of your characters do you think you relate to the most, and which of your characters' powers would you most like to have?

I go back and forth on this, probably because I've sort of 'been' various people in my life. Overall I think Quinn is probably closest to being vaguely autobiographical. He's basically a loser who is redeemed by finding useful work. Very much me. On the other hand, when I was young, I was probably a bit closer to being Caine. I was a bit of a dick. And God knows there's a bunch of Astrid's arrogance there, too. But in other ways Edilio has some resonance because he was poor and his life was insecure, and so was mine.

Writing question: How do you get a likable character (Suzy, for example), with some flaws (overly excitable, doesn't think things through, can be arrogant), give her a challenge, have her accomplish that with friends, make the reader swoon... And finally brutally murder Suzy leaving her friends emotional trama and depression, along with the reader, without it being cheesy? (you seem well known for this! :) )
