As for your question, I honestly can't say that "all" of the goblins are assigned to different genders, since we haven't met every single goblin bodyguard. And I didn't necessarily decide to make it that way. It mostly came down to me looking at the characters that were being assigned bodyguards and thinking about what personality would be an interesting blend with their personality as I created their goblins. For some reason they tended to pair better with the opposite gender, and I liked that because it was less expected (often times genders are paired up). But it isn't a law of the goblins or elves or anything.

Do you like cheesecake? It's weird how it's called cake since it's like a pie. I just looked it up and pie is pie if it has fruit/veggies or meat so technically unless it's a fruit cheesecake it isn't pie. And the definition of a cake is that it’s baked and has flour, shortening, eggs, and sugar. So it is a cake. I thought it was interesting that the pie didn't mention a crust. Do elves make pie? Okay, I'm done now.
