First, congratulation on the nomination of "Dark Matter" for a Goodreads Choice Award, well-deserved! Where does the Plexiglas installation idea come from? It added such an unexpected, introvert and pensive tone to the book, I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for your work, and I look forward to new books.

I'm so happy to hear you say that! To be honest, that scene was one of the moments from the book that I seriously considered cutting, but I ultimately left it in b/c I loved the idea of art reflecting reality at this very head-scratching moment in the story. The idea came from a (very different) installation I saw years ago in Chapel Hill while I was in college there. I love multimedia art that evokes emotion and actually takes you into its space.

Dark Matter is my go to handsell recommend at my shop and I've had so many people come back and tell me they loved it to. I also loved Recursion, was lucky enough to snag an ARC of it. Are you planning to continue in the "Smart Sci-fi" genre or are you looking to push out into other genres?

So much heart and profound meaning buried within a wild futuristic sci-fi story. Did you find inspiration from him or vice versa? Do you know Ted Chiang or have read any of his work? Just curious!!
