Kate Monro
Kate Monro asked:

Could anyone recommend the most readable book about the life of Winston Churchill? I'm after something I can barely put down because its so exciting. I'm less about the facts and the figures and more about the stories behind the man but I love a history lesson too!

Kathleen Cochran Just finished "Clementine" about Mrs. Churchill. Could not put it down.
Sweetwilliam Kate - Manchester's the Last Lion. It is a three part series on WSC. I have listened to the first two on audio books and I have just started the third. They are so fascinating. The Last Lion Part 1 years 1874-1932 was so interesting in many ways. I felt like I was walking down the streets of Victorian England. The first chapter of The Last Lion Part II, Alone: 1932-1940 is boring but after that there is the best run up to WWII that I have ever read. You can read my reviews of both. If you do not like them I will send you a check if you send me the used copies and a receipt.
Amy I would HIGHLY recommend The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson. It only covers a brief section of his life, however, it is by far the best book I have read about him. The runner-up is Hero of the Empire by Candice Millard. I didn't enjoy The Last Lion nearly as much as I liked these.
Alice Benson I just finished Clementine Churchill.I could not put is down. You can not tell Winston's story without telling how he was entwined with Clemmie. BY Sonia Purcell.
David Winston Clementine was a very important untold story behind the man.
Mary O'Rourke The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson
Bargain Sleuth Book Reviews The new Churchill biography, Walking With Destiny, is excellent, if you can get through the 982 pages.
Pierke Bosschieter If you want an unputdownable read try Boris Johnson's The Churchill factor
