P. T. Wilkie is not your first character who lives in a motel. I'm curious whether you're writing from experience in that area. Was it a childhood dream to live in a motel? Did you often visit a friend who did? Or is it just an idea you had to make a character stand out?

As a kid, I loved staying in motels on vacation. So, I said to myself, "What if I was a kid LIVING in a motel?" That's how stories get started.
