Goodreads asked D.N. Maynard:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

D.N. Maynard I have been asked many times recently where the inspiration for my book came from. Growing up I was never a great reader, in fact I was a poor reader. I learned much later in life that it could have had something to do with being switched from being naturally left handed, to eating and writing, right handed. Although I was a poor reader, I was good at remembering stories, I could remember every detail from my Sunday School Teacher’s Bible stories, and those I heard at my Grandfather’s knee. It was soon clear that I learned best from auditory teachings. I think that’s why I loved History in school, and became a history teacher. I love telling and listening to stories.

“Three Summers” is the telling of some of the stories of my life, one being the intermittent relationship I had with an older cousin who in some ways way like an older brother, with this I have mixed with stories from the history of the Pacific Northwest, and a very large amount of imagination, or what is called Historical Fiction.
