You make characters so human, and even if they do horrible things, a reader still likes them. I guess it's just the way you give little details to show how complicated the character feels or/and is. But how exactly do you weave these details into such a smooth plot with a large cast of characters?

Marie Lu Thank you! It was not easy with Adelina, haha. The shortest answer to this is: I pushed Adelina steadily and steadily farther as the books went on, but I had to remember to let her hang onto the bits of her humanity--her love for her sister, her desire to belong, etc. It involved a lot of layering in characterization in my revisions.
