Regarding your question about writing tips, I'm going to recommend a book that helped me polish and develop my prose style: Word Painting by Rebecca McClanahan. While the book is aimed at prose writers, I think her emphasis on using your powers of observation and imagination to "paint pictures" for your readers might appeal to you as a poet.

In The Hanged Man there is an "unnecessary" scene (p. 43) where Lefebvre has to kill time doing paperwork at HQ. This is the kind of touch that I appreciate. How much research did it take to uncover what "routine" was for the Paris police back then?

Hello! I am currently reading "The Hanged Man" (read "The Devil in Montmartre" last year) - hope you can answer a question for me. I'm having a problem with the forensic photog's last name: Gilles. Is it hard "g" (like "gone"), or soft "g" (like "giraffe" or the letter "j" in "James") -- rhymes with "while" ... or hard "g" and 2 syllables (like "gill-less"). Every time I get to it, my brain stumbles LOL Help?
