I just finished it; I agree with Jean-Marie and the publisher's website. Elementary students can definitely handle the young readers' edition. The writing is pretty basic (few complex sentences) and the subject matter is explained in a way to supply students with much of the background they might need, whether history or science.

The reading level is at the upper 8th grade level. I would recommend this book to 7th through 12th graders.

The publisher's website says the young readers' edition is for ages 8 - 12.

I would put this at the Middle Grade/Lower Young Adult range (upper elementary and middle school levels).

My 4th graders are loving the content, especially my girls.
