Jordan Castillo Price I LOVE this question. I didn't have as much worldbuilding in place when I wrote the exploding incubus as I do now, but I can see where he'd fit in the scheme of things.

Something Vic is just starting to learn is that there are multiple planes, so when he sees tracers of his "subtle bodies" he's seeing astral and etheric forms slightly misaligned with his physical. (Mediums' subtle bodies are loose.) Ghosts are the etheric forms of people who used to be physical, so Uncle Leon's ghost arm is just part of his etheric body.

The incubus was an etheric being that bridged the gap and became physical, and was using the physical body to trap people and suck out their etheric forms. The slime that was left behind when Vic banished him is similar to the ectoplasm Vic sometimes manifests, or the goo that covered people who crossed physical/astral in GhosTV. It's the byproduct of bridging two planes.

Now, on to Jacob. He's superb at controlling his own etheric body. Had he been conscious, the incubus would've had a hard time sucking him dry. But unconscious, he was still vulnerable. Physically, his talent wouldn't protect him because his talent doesn't extend to the physical plane.
