G.S. Wright
Hi Sorry, didn't see this until now (like a year later!!!) :O I guess I need to visit Goodreads more!!!
After I wrote this, I had someone say the same thing. I had totally forgotten about the movie, and I had to go and read the movie synopsis for a reminder. While the concept is similar, I (fortunately) was not subconsciously influenced by the movie, and the two go in different directions from the other.
Here's one of the first reviews I ever received, which answers your question from someone other than me:
I'm an elementary teacher and I LOVE to read, particularly YA sci-fi and fantasy. So when my husband's friend published this book, he bought me the ebook and put it on my Kindle as a surprise. I read the first few chapters and almost stopped reading because it was pretty dark and also rather derivative. (I got a strong A.I. vibe and I hated that movie, so...I wasn't too interested in continuing my read.) However, I was intrigued enough to give it another try the next day, and I'm SO glad I did. About a quarter of the way into the book things start to get unique and very interesting. I don't want to give any spoilers, so let me just say: Read it. All the way through. Enjoy the unexpected plot twists and the definite edge Wright brings to this sci-fi Pinocchio story. If you like dark, intense, futuristic sci-fi, you will enjoy this book.
