If you could be anything else aside from writer/author, what career would you choose and why?
Before writing, I taught university literature. I suspect that practically speaking, that's what I'd do again.
. . . but I regularly ponder "the next career." If I get bored with writing or fail to come up with ideas, I'd like to be an editor OR go to grad school for another degree (probably folklore) and return to teaching.
I've always had a list though. Before motherhood, I was gathering materials to apply to law school, but found out I was pregnant so I stuck with teaching (which I LOVED anyhow). Before I sold the very first book (while I was teaching PT), I was accepted to another graduate school program bc I'd like to get at least one more degree. I am forever plotting other trajectories bc I fear stagnation.
