This question contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[It's briefly mentioned in Jdate that John sometimes visits Original Dave's burying site. What do these visits mean to him? Is this a ritual his character follows on set dates, or more spur of the moment? (hide spoiler)]

Well the point of that being in the story is emphasizing the nature of John and Dave's relationship - DAVE doesn't know why John does that, and John doesn't tell him. Their friendship is different from how Dave perceives it but like many of the mysteries in the story, Dave doesn't know, so you don't know. Here there's no big story point ("John is secretly performing rituals to resurrect him!") aside from the fact that Dave doesn't connect with people very well, and is often confused by what they say and do.

Do you have any writing exercises you'd like to suggest? I try and write one thing a day, whether it be a book review or a sketched out interaction between different forms of my insanity. What I have trouble with the most is finding a starting point though. Once I get my foot on the ledge I can blather, I just need to find a better way than blindly kicking the rock face as I scramble in the dark.

With the upcoming 10th anniversary JDatE book having new content, is it easy for you to revisit characters in the context of an older story? Or do you find it easier to write their character development into a new plot? And do you have any future plans to revisit your other novels with extra stuff when the time comes?

I just noticed a few similarities between the JDatE movie and Dean Koontz "Odd Thomas" movie and started thinking about what you mentioned about universes. Is it possible that John and Dave and Odd all live in the same universe? Given I'm thinking about two separate and distinct authors, any sort of "cross over" would more than likely never happen. But let's just say Mr. Koontz was interested, what would you think?
