How did you come up with the idea for Keeper of the Lost Cities? Was it hard to plan the whole thing?

The idea came from LOTS of different places. I spent about 2 years coming up with the world and the characters--it was a very involved, rather challenging process (but super fun, too). But I guess two of the main "idea seeds" that the series sprouted from were my love of Legolas from Lord of the Rings, and my love of X-Men. I wanted to write about elves that were cool and powerful and sort of the supreme beings on the planet, like Legolas. But I didn't want them to be magical. I wanted them to be more like the X-Men, each having a different talent that came from who/what they are genetically. Though in KEEPER's case, it's not mutation that gives them their abilities, it's extra senses.
