Tuesday Pil asked Shannon Messenger:

How did you come up with the idea for Keeper of the Lost Cities? Was it hard to plan the whole thing?

Shannon Messenger The idea came from LOTS of different places. I spent about 2 years coming up with the world and the characters--it was a very involved, rather challenging process (but super fun, too). But I guess two of the main "idea seeds" that the series sprouted from were my love of Legolas from Lord of the Rings, and my love of X-Men. I wanted to write about elves that were cool and powerful and sort of the supreme beings on the planet, like Legolas. But I didn't want them to be magical. I wanted them to be more like the X-Men, each having a different talent that came from who/what they are genetically. Though in KEEPER's case, it's not mutation that gives them their abilities, it's extra senses.
