Roberta S.
Roberta S. asked Sabrina Fedel:

I'm from Kent, went to KSU and wondered why you chose this subject for a YA novel?

Sabrina Fedel Somehow, I never saw this question before-sorry about that! The events just really struck me as a story about young people, many of them barely beyond the intended YA audience. I’d already been focused on writing for young people and children, and it seemed like a story kids today should know. So many of the struggles of the time are still with us in some form-racism, classism, sexism, small town v. university, etc. The lens may shift, but the fundamental issues remain. I really wanted kids today to be able to connect with that history, which in some ways was so long ago but which still has so many reverberations, especially in how we protest and think of protest today. Thanks for the question!
