Just got the new book when I got the Amazon.com alert for it. Here's a question; what do you do when writing, but you see too many different possible directions for the story, or at least an important segment of it?
Elliott Kay
By and large I try to stick with whichever direction gets me to the end goal of the story. I usually know how I want a story to play out at its climax, so everything that serves the climax gets priority. Honestly, there were several things I wanted to do with Drew in the new book that were really cool but didn't quite fit the climax, so I had to put those developments aside for a later story.
I will say, though, that sometimes I just go with it. The decision comes down to whether I can stop thinking about That One Really Cool Idea or not. Good Intentions (book 1) was almost entirely written by the seat of my pants rather than planned out in advance, so it's basically the result of a lot of "What if THIS happened?" thinking.

Elliott Kay:
I just finished reading Life in Shadows, and this weekend is the first time I've read your books (which are awesome btw). But I swear I've read the Halloween For Life story before and I remember liking it a lot. Reading it context after just finishing the other two books made it even better! I'm going crazy trying to figure out where I might've read it. Has it ever been published in an anthology or online before?

I just stumbled across Good Intentions a week ago and decided to check it out and by the end of the week I'd already finished Natural Consequences. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed both books. I think it takes a real gift to write characters that the reader comes to care about and I can't wait to read more about Alex and his friends (and girlfriends). That said, do you have a favorite character?
