Why would O'Brien give Winston that book if he wasnt actually a part of the brotherhood? If he was a member of the party all along why would he give Winston a glimpse into the truth?

Pete During one of the sessions in Room 101 O"Brien confides to Winston that the book is nonsense. Even if that weren't the case, the Party plan is to eradicate all language, thought and emotion and if that goal was attainable then a book would have no value anyway.
