The swearing, however, is in the Fae language and we are not told the English equivalent. The sexual content is another thing entirely. There is just about every type of male-female sexual encounter across the five books. In the first there is some seriously steamy heavy petting between Rain and Elysetta, there is the rape (a manipulation) of a court woman by a mage, and towards the end, a mass frenzied sexual encounter of many people as they have been affected by a magical weave. In subsequent books, there are many scenes of rape, enslavement, rape of females slaves to purposely get them pregnant, torture of both men and women, and the sexual relationship between the two main characters (who at some point, do get married). All of these scenes are doors wide open, the language used is in your face, and considering the nature of the people involved and their situation, could be quite upsetting. I gave the books a maximum of 4* because of the smut level, the story itself (bar the final one) is brilliant, but personally I didn't think the sexual content added anything to it. if this were a series of films, they would be 18 rated. I would not recommend them to those who have had abusive relationships, is a survivor of rape, or anyone under the age of 18.(less)
