Goodreads asked Kate Rhodes:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kate Rhodes Most of my books are inspired by my specific locations, and The Winter Foundlings is no exception. I stumbled across the Foundling Museum in Bloomsbury in London. It's the city's first ever orphanage, built while Charles Dickens was at the height of his fame. I found the building so disturbing and atmospheric, I had to include it in my book. The story also visits a high security mental hospital which is very similar to Broadmoor, another haunting location.
