Goodreads asked David Bishop:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

David Bishop Read. Write, rewrite, and then rewrite again until the prose on paper live like they do in your head. Study the craft so you understand things like: deep point of view, first versus third person (ignoring 2nd for this comment), word swamp--what is it and how to avoid it. How to set the hook for your story--EARLY in the story. How to root each scene so the readers know who is in the scene, where it is taking place, and why. This needs to be done for each scene in a non-laundry list manner. Also how to end chapters with some kind of a motivation to turn the page and go on to the next chapter.
