Goodreads asked J.L. Murray:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

J.L. Murray Just write. Write everything. Write about your day, write about your Aunt Fanny and her cats, write about ideas and songs and sparks of things that won't leave you. It's hard going at first, but the more you write, the easier it comes to you. Don't worry about publishing or money or anthologies or sharing your work. Your job in the beginning is to write, to practice your craft. If you try to publish before you're ready, you will regret it. Just write for a year, five years, ten years. When it flows, when it gets easy, when it gets good, you'll know it.
