I've read almost all of Anne Perry's books with THOMAS PITT, but have never read the stories with WILLIAM MONK. I love her writing so I may have to check out the other series. Anyone who has read the other series, are they as good??

Kathy England I like the Monk series even more than I like the Thomas Pitt series.
Lilyane Read all of the Monk books, you will not be sorry. All of the characters are exquisitely drawn, and the narrative is so beautiful it rivals poetry.

I do agree they should be read in order.

I hope you enjoy them.
Taryn Kincaid I've read a few of the Pitt books, but ALL of the Monk books. IMO, the Monk books are darker and you MUST read them in order, starting with the first, in which Monk and Hester meet and we are introduced to the main (and continuing characters -- except for Scruff, who doesn't appear until the later books.) The story arc is built and continued in each book, so to pluck one up at random may leave you at sea. Also, in addition to the mystery that is Monk himself, and the murder mystery that Monk, Hester and crew seek to unravel, the books are also concerned with justice and the way it works. In that they are somewhat set up like the TV series Law & Order, with the Monks' friend and usual ally, Oliver Rathbone in the courtroom for the latter part of the book, even as the Monks continue to pursue the mystery and/or procure witnesses, sometimes finding themselves in jeopardy.
Ann I have read the Thomas Pitt and William Monk series. I prefer the William Monk series. However, the WWI series, starting with "No Grave as Yet" is a must read. My favorite by far. The five book series has all of Anne Perry's in depth characters as well as a fascinating story arc.
Liz Read, and own, all the novels she has produced and love them all. Looking forward to adding this one.
Kristine Walker I've read a few Pitt novels, but I've always preferred the William Monk/Hester series. I've read them largely in sequence, which I suggest doing if you pick up this series. I've had many enjoyable reads and always love meeting up with Monk, Hester, and Scruff. Oh, and Rathbone too.
Libbi I've not read any of the Thomas Pitt and ALL of the William Monk. In general, I really enjoy her plotting & characters, especially in the early novels with the development of Monk's character and it's changes and his relationships with others while he deals with the repercussions of his lost memory. There are generally two or three plot lines that aren't too confusing to keep track of as can sometimes happen with multiple characters and stories. Her mysteries are well thought out. Monk isn't a very likable character at first, and there is a reason for that. I've loved some of the mysteries, and only liked some. I would suggest starting at the beginning if you like following a characters full story arc. Have fun!!!
Sandra Jackson - Alawine I love both her series but actually like the Monk series best because his wife Hester plays a bigger role. She also has her own career as a nurse.
Duffy Perry's books are very good but there is something about the William Monk series that sets it above her rest. When you finally break down and start reading them, do start them from the beginning. They definitely are better when read in order.
Lauren I've read them all except the whole Christmas novella set. Love Monk, the Pitts, and her WWI series as well, which doesn't get the recognition it deserves IMHO. Definitely start with #1 of each new series that you give a go. Some readers/reviewers start somewhere in the middle and then are upset when they don't like it since they didn't have the foundation and background! Any series you pick will be worth it. Happy reading!
