Dan asked this question about Killing the Rising Sun: How America Vanquished World War II Japan:
I would not be able to read anything by O'Reilly. I doubt he and his co authors could be objective in their search for a truly historical perspective. Does anyone else agree?

I give this book 3 stars because of what I FELT was the author's undeclared purpose, to justify the US dropping of the atomic bomb. Even though I happen to agree it was the right decision. I believe that all history writing is by nature biased. Facts have to be sifted through and selected (Bias), motives evaluated (Bias), diaries, letters and recollections are all subject to bias etc... If you read History be aware of that and don't swallow any authors conclusions without question would be me my advice to you. That being said I think this book is well worth the read and has assembled a lot of facts and vignettes about the Pacific War. the reader will be better informed after reading it. (less)
