Chris Bohjalian Barev dzez!

I speak very little Armenian, though I am learning bit by bit. I can now write my name in Armenian, for instance. Progress! And I know a lot of the conversational expressions, which actually means when I am in Armenia or with the communities in Lebanon or L.A., people think briefly I can speak the language -- and so I often have to confess quickly that I don't.

A "bohjal" is a bundle often slung over one's shoulder, sometimes at the end of a stick.

My last name, thus, is the "son of the bundle maker."

In reality, I am the "son of the ad man."

Thanks for asking!
