Diana asked:

For those who have read the book Code Talker by Chester Nez, do you think is it appropriate for children in upper elementary school? My son, 10, is very interested in listening to the audio book. Thank you.

Leslie Yes I think it would be appropriate for a 10 year old.
Christy Chester Nez seemed to write with respect about his experiences. I don't remember him being graphic. He did cite some problems with his marriage toward the end of the book, but didn't go into specifics.
No sexual content.
Jennifer I teach 4th grade, I am thinking of using parts of it in class.
Christine There is no sexual content. It does describe violence of war, though I wouldn't say that it's extremely graphic.
Brenda Rae Has he read Red Badge of Courage? If so, then yes.
Lil Absolutely This is a little known piece of American history.
Wendy In a very short passage, Nez describes a scene where an American's feet are frozen in icey water and a nail pounded into his head. If you can "edit" that out, then yes. I was surprised that the book included this as the rest of it is very appropriate for a wide age group/
A.J. Yes, if he understands what war is.
