I don't have a lot of advice because everyone writes so differently. What I usually say is: Write write write and read read read and be you. Don't compare yourself to anyone else and do what works best for you. Because ultimately you have to enjoy writing. If you're mostly enjoying it, then you're doing it right. (I say 'mostly' because sometimes you will loathe it with a thousand loathings)
