Goodreads asked H.C. Cavall:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

H.C. Cavall Read a lot. You can't write a good book if you don't know what "good" looks like (or "bad", for that matter). Find a place you feel safe to write. If it's your first time out, don't overestimate your non-writing skills (no offense). Freelance editors are your friends.

Consider eBooks over traditional print if you're willing to put in a lot of elbow grease, and I mean a LOT. Royalties are better, and you can get your work to the public without convincing a middle man. Otherwise, just keep on querying, and don't worry about rejections. There's no magic formula or shadowy cabal, just a lot of people with very few openings and ulcers from trying to fill them.
