it's not written for high schoolers, it's really written for the 8-12 crowd. But high schoolers could totally enjoy it as well.

If, like C.S. Lewis's goddaughter, for whom he says he wrote The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, they are "too old for fairy tales", yes. Or if they are oversensitive to how young some other reader might be.
But if they are wider readers than that, who have never stopped reading fairy tales, aka fantasy, ... well, I'm old enough to be a high schooler's granddaddy or even great-granddaddy, and I liked it.

No, it would interest a high school student. The story and language are best for grades 5-high school.

I agree with Naomi, Lory & Teresa; even though the main character grows from an infant up until she reaches 13 years, this beautifully written book could absolutely be enjoyed by any teen who already loves fantasy stories. Of course, it is also appropriate for the younger ages.

I think after reading it that this book would qualify as "Tween", because it's slightly above Middle Grade, but not quite into the YA sphere.
However, I think people of all ages could appreciate this book.
