Did you work with historians or archives to create the story?

Colson Whitehead "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel." Nope, just read books! Slave narratives are all in the public domain and downloadable. The WPA slave interviews from the 1930 are yours as a US taxpayer! "Bound for Canaan" by Fergus Bordewich provides a nice overview of how the railroad worked. After a certain point, the fun part for a fiction writer is stopping research so I can start writing.
