Anirudh asked Mark Lawrence:

I am currently reading Prince of Fools and wanted to ask you about Jalan. When you wrote this series, how difficult was it to not make him a second Jorg? (Especially since Jorg is such an amazing and complex character) Were you conscious about it?

Mark Lawrence I was very conscious that the only reliable way to stop people calling any new character I wrote a pale copy of Jorg was to make one so different that any such accusation would look foolish. And to date I'm only aware of one person making that accusation out of hundreds of reviewers.

Making a very different character wasn't difficult to do. Though making any character that is compelling to read about is of course a difficult thing to do.
