Does anyone like that the author wrote the railroad as a physical, operating one? I felt it unnecessary and beyond the scope of possibility.
Catherine Hurst I am amazed that there are so many people who thought the actual railroad was unnecessary/not possible/not historical, but weren't in the slightest bi…moreI am amazed that there are so many people who thought the actual railroad was unnecessary/not possible/not historical, but weren't in the slightest bit bothered by the fact that the life in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, etc. was also not historically accurate--neither to time nor place. (E.g. much of the life in South Carolina was more accurate to the late 19th century.) I thought it all worked beautifully, telling the story of the entire history of the African diaspora, and representing the actual experience of being a slave better than almost anything else I've ever read.(less)
