Does anyone like that the author wrote the railroad as a physical, operating one? I felt it unnecessary and beyond the scope of possibility.

I found it confusing and an unnecessary distraction from the real story. However, the quality of Whitehead's writing and the glimpse he gives us into the emotions experienced by those trapped in the chains of human bondage overrides his little detour from reality. Still well worth my time as a reader.(less)
