Hi Rae - In a reply to a previous question you said that you write about anything that sparks your curiosity. Once you get going, would you describe yourself as a plotter or a pantser, or something in between? Thanks, Jan
Rae Meadows
Hi Jay, thanks for the question! I think I'm somewhere in between but lean toward the pantser side. I've never been an outliner. I always know the ending, and usually some points I want to hit along the way. But for this latest novel in particular, I just went along. The ending stayed the same, but the shape of the middle changed a lot during the editing process. I'm always intimidated by writers who work it all out ahead of time. For me there is something that happens organically in the writing that changes during the process so I wouldn't want to be beholden to what I thought at the onset. And you? Do you write? And which camp do you fall in?

Rae, I saw you'll be in Madison tomorrow! I live about 90 minutes from there and am trying to work it out so I can come, but still have to rearrange some things and figure out childcare. I'm crossing my finger though because it would be so great to see you read from your beautiful novel! Will you be around after the reading to sign books?

Thank you for answering my question. And yes, it does clarify a lot of is going through Annie's mind. I have to say that I admired her stoicism in recognizing that she is not in love with Jack Lily but sees him as a chance to momentarily escape the misery she is going through.
If it's not too cumbersome, I was wondering if you would be interested to do an author interview for Blogcritics.org?

Can we be friends on Goodreads? Rae, I would like to friend you here on Goodreads. First, you and I both seem to have loved Adam Johnson's writing in Emporium (Cassini Satellite affected me deeply...my wife now has her third cancer) and I was absolutely overwhelmed by Trauma Plate. (I did not like all the stories though.) You live in Brooklyn. I was born and raised in "Da Bronx". Peace out. Peter
