I listened to the audiobook on audible, read by Fred Sanders. He’s done an amazing job on the narration! Though slow at times, you can always increase the playback speed to match your pace.

If you focus on the content it doesn't matter at all. I have listened it on Audiable and as I read your question, I thought that he does sound a bit monotonous. I usually put it on high speed, anyway. I have been absolutely addicted to listening the story. I have noticed that if the speaker starts bothering me, then most likely I don't really like the book.
