A Goodreads user asked this question about Crime and Punishment:
I just started this and I'm a little confused. Raskolnikov goes one monologues a lot, and I always get lost. Who is Sonia, what's the name of the man Dunya is gonna marry? And also, what's Raskolnikov's problem with Dunya's finance? Why is he so mad she's gonna marry him?
Duong Chau He goes on monologues because this book is mainly about Raskolnikov's psychology and mental struggles.
Sonia is the daughter of a guy he met in a taver…more
He goes on monologues because this book is mainly about Raskolnikov's psychology and mental struggles.
Sonia is the daughter of a guy he met in a tavern( Marmeladov), later his love interest.
Dunya plans to marry Peter Petrovitch Luzhin.
They are very very poor, mainly sending their money to him.
Raskolnikov doesn't like Luzhin and doesn't like the fact that Dunya is marrying him just to save his studies and career ( Raskolnikov's).Basically he feels very guilty about his sister having to marry a guy just for money.

This is just what I drew up after reading the book so I am not 100% sure I am right about the last bit. I may have missed some parts. I think you should read carefully and pay attention to the details.Or if you want to be lazy you can just google all the answers to these questions.(less)
