Different sorts of books have their varied reasons behind them.
Reason Fulfilled By Revelation started out as an excuse to translate some of Maurice Blondel's works, and then as the research went on, developed into a much larger research project -- whose goal became to enable non-French readers to see the wider scope of the 1930s Christian Philosophy Debates.
The other more academic books I'm working on -- one on Aristotle and anger, the other on St. Anselm's moral theory -- are what I call "philosophical detective work". In that kind of project -- which I very much enjoy doing -- I reconstruct a major thinker's position by bringing together related discussions from all across their body of work.
I'm also working on some more popular books, and these reflect the practical nature of philosophical works I've seen insights and understandings derived from Aristotle, Epictetus, Descartes, or Kierkegaard play a role in transforming people's lives for the better. You might say that they offer the possibility of something going beyond what "self-help" provides.

Gregory B. Sadler:
I saw in one of your answers that you speak French, German, or Greek [or at least have a working knowledge, no?] and I remember in one of your YouTube videos you said you "worked through the grammar book" for German and Greek, at least. My question is: what was your method for working through grammars to learn/refresh your knowledge of a language? I mean did those particular books have exercises, or--?
