I was also thrown off by the ending - about abandoning her son - and I had to reread the last pages numerous times. I tend to agree that In-hye is also contemplating suicide or simply disconnecting from the society she knows. In-hye does seem to agree that it doesn't have to be a bad thing to die.(less)
