Alexandria asked Cornelia Funke:

As an aspiring writer, I end up writing a lot of material I'm not necessarily happy with the first, second, third, and even fourth time I take a shot at it. Have you ever published anything that you were completely happy with? And if not, how do you avoid writing something that you feel the need to rewrite?

Cornelia Funke But Katherine, that IS the craft of writing. Rewriting! I do at least 6, but often up to 14 drafts of a book, erasing dozens of pages, changing almost every word on the way. A story doesn't make it easy for us to catch it. It feeds on patience and passion and time. When I read my first drafts I always wonder what gave me the idea that I am a writer:)
